Happy Birthday, Mary!

Today was the feast day of the nativity of Mary, our Blessed Mother. To celebrate we made a 'pilgrimage' to all the Marian statues in the neighborhood (that's three, including our own!) bearing gifts of flowers, LED candles, necklaces, prayers, and songs. We sang the Litany of The Blessed Virgin on our way and at each statue the kids took off a necklace and put it around 'her' head and turned on (lit) the little LED candles. We then prayed an Ave Maria, sang Salve Regina, and journeyed via foot and wagon to the next. When we got home we ate a birthday cake and the kids played with balloons. This all had to take place at night when Mr. Merland finished class.

Wyatt put together that statues pay tribute to the memory of persons like a grave stone or picture, so I took the oppurtunity to talk about art and how the artists used thier talent to glorify God by creating godly works of His creation. Wyatt stared up at me and asked how long til cake.
